Director: Ross Constable Runtime: 18 min Format: DCP Year: 2017
Once a booming industrial city at Illinois’s southernmost point, Cairo, Illinois, geographically mirrors its namesake in Egypt. Presented as a diptych, the film is a non-linear depiction of a town haunted by constant threats of floods, fires and displacement. Cairo, IL offers a glimpse into the spiritual psyche of the underrepresented American Midwest, informed by history and guided by mysticism.
