Co-written with the legendary L.M. Kit Carson (Paris, Texas, The American Dreamer, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), McBride’s movie warps Godard’s narrative into a gorgeously colorful yet gritty Los Angeles where Jesse (Richard Gere) a loudmouthed rock ‘n’ rollin’ criminal woos and endangers Monica (Valérie Kaprisky), a French UCLA architecture student. The high/low worlds of Silver Surfer comics and theory, infatuation and crime, classy grimy punk, and Philip Glass, love and lust, neon and sunsets collide and converge through the neo-noir-cum-new-wave photography of Richard H.
