Haneke takes his time. His patience and pause only further the intensity of the actions in his films and obscure us (the viewer) from being able to “enjoy” something horrible. I’d say this disconnect is actually more moral/ethical than most other violent films than seem to relish in blood. The camera records, and holds on virtually nothing, and that’s just life, ain’t it?
