Love is sweet, but for one pineapple-loving officer, it’s turned as sour as the expired fruit he’s vowed to eat for a month or, at least, until his ex-girlfriend returns, whichever comes first. Thus begins the twin-tale of two jilted Hong Kong cops, who cross paths with two very different women. Cop 223 (Takeshi Kaneshiro, star of FALLEN ANGELS) falls for a drug-smuggling femme fatale (Brigitte Lin) in a blonde wig. Meanwhile Cop 663 (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) becomes the object of affection for a Mamas and the Papas-loving pixie (Cantopop superstar Faye Wang in her film debut) when he visits a late-night take-out stand. A charming and thoroughly enjoyable work from the master stylist, this film made an icon out of Wong Kar Wai and his young stars, becoming an instant classic of ‘90s cinema upon its release.
