Clouzot’s coulda-been, shoulda-been masterpiece. An unlimited budget, stacked cast and all the time in the world (or not) led to something that never was. A beautfiul, expressionistic document of a doomed production, but at least we got some document right? Dreams fade when you’re awake, only vivid in the moment, etc etc.
