“Speed needs no translation.” The third part of the “Fast & Furious” franchise shifts the saga into a different gear. Gone are Vin Diesel and Paul Walker and, while the streets may have new names, expect the same high-octane thrills as director Justin Lin takes the wheel. When American teenager Sean Boswell (Alabama-born Lucas Black) is sent to live with his father in Japan, he drives deep into the Tokyo underground, where drift racing, as explained by Bow Wow, has taken over the streets. But in a city like this, outsiders must learn how to drive within the lines. This oft-misunderstood installment may be all shine and chrome, but it can hot wire our hearts anytime. To those who can’t understand its brilliance, we say, “pound pavement.”
