Mermaids ditch the flippers and hit dry land in this gleefully perverse twist on the Hans Christian Andersen classic, The Little Mermaid. Literal maneaters, two sisters (Michalina Olszańska and Marta Mazurek)go ashore and take a bite out of the local population while working as performers in a club-cum-new-wave fantasia, but it’s not long before one sister’s taste for a hunky suitor (Jakub Gierszał) threatens to sink the pair’s relationship. A veritable bacchanal of pleasures, this horror-musical from first-time director Agnieszka Smoczyńska is a neon spectacle of outrageous delights.
