Multi-layered, multi-faceted and stacked imagery combining words, images and sex from Peter Greenaway. His usual rigour melts a bit under the beauty and steam coming off its stars. I always say undersung, but Greenaway has forged his own path in film-making unlike anyone else. Perfect mise en scène as always, and maybe one of the only directors to ever really wed literature and cinema. Yes, yes, I’m going back to art school a bit much here – whatever, it’s good!
