Haneke gets right into the actual point of disaster films. Sure, the spectacle of an earthquake or an asteroid hitting the ground is cool and all, but it’s just spectacle, ya know? After the fireworks, it’s just back to black and picking up the scraps again. A brutal, incendiary work as only the master knows how, bring a copy of The Road to read before/after the screening (ps I hope it’s grey skies before the show for extra effect). Burn it all down, baby!
