Hollywood Entertainment presents the official Los Angeles release event for Molly Lambert’s new book Double Acts In Pop, published by design firm Commercial Type. A book about creative partnerships that doubles as a font design catalogue, Double Acts In Pop is a fun, fascinating read and beautiful art object taking a deep look into platonic (and sometimes romantic) musical partnerships.

Double Acts In Pop features text about 23 musical duos and is anchored by a longer essay about the contentious break-up that ended the fifty-year creative collaboration between Daryl Hall and John Oates, the Philadelphia group behind hits like “Private Eyes” who became the best-selling duo act in American music history. Lambert, a podcaster (Heidiworld) and journalist who has written for publications like PitchforkThe New York Times and Grantland, has created a book that combines music history and criticism with a long look at what it really means to be partners.

For the book’s LA release, Molly Lambert hosts a showcase of music and performance videos from acts in the book like The Carpenters, The Righteous Brothers, Right Said Fred, Hall & Oates, and Wham! with live commentary from all-star podcasters Jamie Loftus (Sixteenth Minute), Karina Longworth (You Must Remember This) and Yasi Salek (Bandsplain).

A portion of proceeds will benefit funds supporting artists displaced by LA wildfires.
